Smörgåsbord: Because that's What Being Swedish is all About!

...A few weeks ago, "the girls" of the family (my mom, two sisters and I) went to visit our cousins. The special event? Their 25th wedding anniversary (yay for them)! It was a fun time--since we traveled about three hours to get to their home, we stayed the night after the party, too.

The day was filled with driving (and all that goes with driving=), and so by the time we got there we were, understandably, quite hungry! Much to our approval, a traditional Smörgåsbord was there spread out before us on a linen table.

Smörgåsbord is a Swedish word. It means, basically, a LARGE variety of foods/finger foods. Since *all* of my relatives are either Swedish (on my mom’s side), or Norwegian (on my dad’s side), we children are *full* Scandinavian and must expect a Smörgåsbord or two in our lifetime. =) There are good things in a Smörgåsbord, and…interesting things (like cod and raw fish and fish eggs and the like--bleh! I guess I'm not a TRUE Scandinavian, lol), but all in all, it is quite tasty and pretty.

~A "cake" (this is the bottom of it, though) that is the traditional Swedish Wedding Cake~

...I was quite full near the end! ;)

May He bless you today, and always!

To God Be the Glory!

Great things He has taught us, great things He has done,

And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son;

But purer and higher and greater will be

Our wonder, our transport, when Jesus we see.

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the earth hear His voice!

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the people rejoice!

O come to the Father thro’ Jesus the Son,

And give Him the glory, great things He has done!

~....Fanny Crosby, "To God Be the Glory," third verse....~

"Thrifty & chic" Voting!!

Here are *all* of the lovely young ladies who participated in this week's "Thrifty and Chic! Modest Fashion Show." I so enjoyed having ya'll, and hope everyone had fun! The outfits were spectacular and very chic, ;) as well as thrifty. Great job, everyone!

The polls are now open on the sidebar. After looking at some of their outfits, vote for the three girls you think demonstrated thriftyness and femininity with their chosen outfits. The polls will be open for five days, starting today--participants, tell your blogger friends and spread the word about voting!

So, without further adieu…=)

....So, now--go vote for your favorite three, and if I've forgotten someone who DID AT LEAST TWO DAYS of this fashion show, comment and let me know! And aren't these girls all *super* pretty in their lovely outfits? I was amazed at what they came up with! Thank you all for joining--I love ya'll!

Tis the Season for...Popsicles!

*...Comes in panting and sits down.* Ahhhhh.

...Two words: Hot. Sunburn. =)

It was at least 85 degrees today--purty warm for where I live (though maybe not for some of you Arizonians or Texans..:)! I sat out in one of our kayaks in my grandma's pond (just next door) today, doing my schoolwork. Boy did I get a little color...browned, and red, I'm sorry to say. =P Yes, I put on sun-tan lotion, and yes, I was wearing short sleeves. =D ..But it doesn't hurt THAT much, thankfully!

Anyways, much as I enjoyed all the fashion shows, I am glad to get back to 'normal' posts, what about you? ;) And THANK YOU to all the young ladies who voted for me over at Samantha's blog. I am touched, and excited to announce that I either tied for second or got third (it's sort of mixed up at the moment, so I don't know..)! It was so much fun, and I am looking forward to the "voting session" here, tomorrow (which I won't be included in, of course), for "Thrifty & Chic." :)

So. What have I to relate?? Well, I am still doing at VBS just ended yesterday...I am behind on writing to my dear pen-pals...strawberry picking starts next is tomorrow...yep! My mom is currently at a Homeschool Curriculum Sale, and I helped get all of our stuff ready with the tags/prices/formalities, etc. That took a *good* part of the day on...Thursday. The sale started yesterday, and ends this evening. It's also a conference, and has sessions and speakers, too.

But--yes! I am so excited that Summer is finally peeking out from its shy little corner. At last, the sun! And (as I mentioned in my title)...POPSICLES!! *reaches for a cool blue* ICE WATER!! WATER BALLOONS!!

As you can see, I am thoroughly excited. :)

Blessings as it grows warmer--remember your sun screen or risk looking like a raspberry!

Last "Thrifty and Chic" post, updates, etc.

This is the last day of the "Thrifty & Chic! Modest Fashion Show..." =( *sniff sniff* =)

It has been SO much fun having ya'll participate--thank you! Your outfits were oh, so thrifty and cute--AND, more importantly, *modest.* =D Don't feel bad if you couldn't post for all of the days--we all get busy--as long as you did at least two days, you're fine!

If you're JUST joining today, to qualify for "winning," please post two photos of different outfits, and then link to the appropriate linky here for that day. I left all of the linkys up so newcomers could catch up/do as much as they wanted.

...Anyways, before I show you my last outfit, I'll update you on the "winners"/voting/"prizes:

On June 27th, I will post all of the young ladies who participated in this events' name/photo, etc. Then, you, dear readers/participaters, will have the chance to vote for the three girls who you think demonstrated thriftyness, creativeness, femininity, and modesty in their outfits. I will post a poll on the 28th (after you have had a chance to look through each participant's outfits) on the sidebar for voting. There will be three "winners," and (as I mentioned when I first posted about this fashion event) though there isn't a real "prize," I will make those three a button announcing their win which they can put on their blog, and I will follow their blogs. The whole idea of the event was not, of course, about "winning,"but a chance for girls to 'show off' :) their thrifty talents! I have really had a ton of fun, and I hope you have, too!

So, here's my last outfit...*sniff* I really love this skirt--it just reminds me of vintage, somehow! And I had to throw in the pale yellow top. :)

"Floral Vintage"

What I'm Wearing Today:

Pale yellow ruffle-topped blouse: Hand-me-down from Old Navy
Blue under-tank: Old Navy (again??!!), $2
Black and white vintage floral-print skirt: Goodwill (I forget the brand, sorry..:)
Blue flip-flops (yes, I'm wearing some!!): Old Navy (haha, how'd ya guess??), 2.50

Day FIVE (not last day): Thrifty & Chic~"My 'Little' Red Dress!"

Day FIVE of "Thrifty & Chic!" Wow--how the time *flies!* :) But, as I mentioned in the below post, today is NOT the last day. Tomorrow, the 25th, is! Sorry for any confusion over that...I counted wrong. But, you can still join in the fun (learn about it HERE), if you post today (to qualify for the "prizes" you have to have posted at least two outfits).

...So, I am using a rather oldish picture for today's--unfortunatley, I didn't have time to put together a new outfit/take photos yesterday or today, so I am forced to use this one. Some of you have already seen this outfit, some of you have not! Here it is:

 "My 'Little' Red Dress!"

What I'm Wearing Today:

Red tie casual dress: "Merona"--Goodwill, $5
Grey button-up sweater (in some photos): "Manacotta"--Goodwill, $7??
Black stockings: Christmas gift
Tall fur boots: Christmas gift when I was 12--yes, they still fit! :)

UPDATE on Samantha's Modest Fashion Show Voting--*please read!*

UPDATE on the voting for Samantha's "Modest Fashion Week (which I was in):"

...She is extending the voting a few days, so hurry on over there and vote! Click HERE to view a list/sample picture of each young lady that was in it (including me, *hint hint*..just kidding!), and vote for the two you think best showed modesty/feminine fashion. I can't wait to find out who wins--the outfits each girl wore were spectacular, and it was so hard for me to choose just two!! =D The polls are on the top of her sidebar--you can't miss 'em! :)

P.S. ( ON MY "THRIFTY & CHIC! MODEST FASHION SHOW: Yes, this event is a SIX day event, not a five day--sorry for that wrong info, I must've counted wrong! Woops! =) But, it goes to the 25TH, which is two days from tonight (the 23rd). So, two more outfits, ladies!! :)

Day FOUR: Thrifty & Chic Modest Fashion Event~"Clad in Plaid"

For this fifth day of “Thrifty & Chic! The Modest Fashion Show,” I am again in plaid. Enter HERE (I'm hosting it) to join this fun event while it lasts!

...If you remember from Modest Fashion Week, I *adore* plaid, and love its “Scottish-ness” and country air. =) Anyways, here is the second of my plaid shirts--the orange one. =) And I especially love plaid in long-sleeved, collared, button-up blouses.

"Clad in Plaid: Orange 'n' Black!"

~Photos taken by either my dear friends Barbra or Miss Raquel...I can't remember which!~

Day THREE: Thrifty & Chic Modest Fahion Event: "The Woodsy Summer" (plus updates!!)

...Wow--Day THREE already, girls! Thanks so much to all who have entered--go HERE to learn about this if you are just reading my blog, and feel that you want to enter!

Another note: I feel SO terrible, I just accidentally deleted 15 comments!! Aaah! I had clicked all of them to ‘publish’ them, but then I realized one young lady didn’t want her’s published, so I clicked ‘reject…’ forgetting that all of them were selected. And so, all were lost. =( So, if you would like to, re-comment on whatever you comment on, and I will be SO glad to publish them!!

**Also, YES, hand-me-downs, hand-sewn, and gift articles of clothing are allowed in the fashion show. Any other questions, please feel free to e-mail me at:**

Here is my outfit for day three of "Thrifty and Chic!" I am sorry for the fuzzyness of the photos...=( This is a very simple outfit, once again contrived of my *favorite* colors, plae yellow and white (though creme is preferrable). =D

"The Woodsy Summer"

What I am Wearing Today:

Yelllow blouse: ON SALE at Old Navy (haha, how'd you guess??;)--about $2
White tiered skirt: Ross: Dress for Less--$10
White lacy under-tank: Ross: Dress for Less--$3
Brown flip-flops (which you can barely see--but yes, they are there!): Old Navy--two pairs for $5!!

**...And just for a small update about life around here....I know my posts for the past week have been ALL clothes, haha! =)

I have had an EXTREMLEY busy week, and will continue to be busy. :) My sister and I are helping out at a Vacation Bible School down the road from us, every 6:00--9:30 pm until Friday. Then, once they are ripe, my brother Mark, and Olivia and I, are going to be helping out with some friends of ours' strawberry harvest at their farm, for two weeks...6:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. every day. So, strawberries in the mornings, school in the afternoons (yes, we are still working!!), and VBS in the chores, work, letters from pen-pals, blogging, :) daily living, etc...=B-U-S-Y!!! But still, I am enjoying it. =D Anyways, there's just a lil "update" for ya'll!**

Blessings to you all,
Miss Lucia

What I’m Wearing Today:

Brown short-sleeved blouse: “Arizona”--received for my birthday!
High under-tank: ON SALE at Old Navy--about $4
Pink and brown floral skirt: Hand-me-down

So, here is my last outfit (*sniff*) for this fashion event, but stay tuned for more (perhaps a bit more thrifty=) outfits coming with the "Thrifty & Chic! Modest Fashion Event" here.

"Flower Girl"

What I'm Wearing:

Green half-sleeve top: Old Navy
White cami: Ross
White tiered ruffle skirt: Ross

...This has been so mcuh fun, and I look forward to seeing ya'll's (whoa, that turned out weird...=) last outfits, as well as perhaps your "thrifty" :) ones for here!

Blessings in Him,
Miss Lucia

Day ONE: "Thrifty & Chic Modest Fashion Show!

Also, if you prefer, you can leave a comment here with the url of your outfit for today instead of linking up. Just so I know you are in/what you wore each day!

So. Here is my first post for Day One of the "Thrifty & Chic! Modest Fashion Show:" :)

My Favorite Thrift Stores/Bargain Stores:

Day Six: Modest Fashion Event~"Yellow and Dandilions"

...As I mentioned in the last post, I will not be here for tomorrow, so am doing my Day six of "Modest Fashion Week" today. =)

"Yellow and Dandilions"

..I don't know, this brown and yellow combination just made me think of dandilions (thus, the title=)!

What I'm Wearing:

T-shirt: Old Navy
Layered Cami: Rainbow
Brown tiered skirt: Aeropastele (hand-me-down)
Yellow purse: "Merona"~Target

While I was in Minnesota, I purchased the cami for layering and underneath, and was surprised at how high it was! I like yellow, though it isn't the best color on me. =) I also bought the purse in Minnesota for not very much--I was looking for a large, soft purse that could carry books, etc. Brown and yellow seem to go well together, so I chose this skirt which had been handed-down to me by a friend. The top had been missing it's gathering strings, so it was huge at first, but then with a little time I got the string back through and it is as good as...hand-me-down new!

Day Five: Modest Fashion Week~"Casual Plaid & Jean"

...Day five of the “Modest Fashion Show” is here, and I have a casual outfit to display. Thank you *all* so much for taking the time to view my outfits and comment; I love seeing your outfits and blogs, too! This is such a fun thing--thank you, Miss Samantha, for the idea!

I am sorry to say that I will not be able to be post for the last day, tomorrow. My family and I are going to visit my cousins for their 25th wedding anniversary over the weekend, until Sunday. So, I will schedule my post today, and link up (hopefully, if that is allowed--I will have to ask!) for both days. But, here is my Day Five outfit…

"Casual Plaid and Jean"

What I’m Wearing:

Short-sleeved blue plaid shirt: “Merona”--Target

Straight jean skirt: Old Navy (the “old style,” haha…from the ‘90s or something!)

Flats: American Eagle Outfitters

...You know, sometimes you just feel like being...casual? This is my only jean skirt, *sniff* and I am looking for another becauseI love jean skirts! Especially the pleated ones…hopefully I’ll find one (or two;) soon. Plaid is also a favorite blouse design for me--it feels sorta “country” and Scottish (why that matters to me I don’t know) at the same time. *sigh* =)

*UPDATES*--"Thrifty and Chic! Modest Fashion Event"

...As you may have noticed, I have a sign-up linky thing at the top of this blog. I have decided to do Mclinky afterall for the "Thrifty and Chic! Modest Fashion Show," so, if you are planning on participating, please sign up there instead of in a comment on the post. Those who already signed up using the "comments way" are still in, of course, but if you get a chance please sign up with the Mclinky as well.  I will be doing Mclinky each day of the show, too, instead of the comments--if you are in Samantha's Fashion Event, it will be just like that.

I have had several questions about this: YES, you can wear things that were on-sale or by gifts. That is still very thrifty, haha! =D

There are still a few more days until the show--it starts on the 20th and runs to the 25th. I can't wait to see all you ladies' outfits, and for those of you who haven't signed up, please consider doing so! Click HERE to learn about it.

If you have ANY questions, please e-mail me at:

..I will be out of town over the weekend, though.

Miss Lucia

Day Four: Modest Fashion Week~"Peasant Dress"

Day four already! =) Well, I have a rather unique outfit today--nothing fancy, but a simple outfit with a special feature...what I call the:

"Peasant Dress"

...This dress isn't really a 'dress,' just a skirt and blouse tucked in with a belt.

What I'm Wearing:

"Peasant" Blouse: Handmade in Cyprus
Skirt: Old Navy
Belt: Borrowed from my sister! =)

~(Below) Some of the intriquite crocheting and weaving~

This blouse, as stated above, is *handmade by women in Cyprus.* My dad was there nearly 30 years ago, working as a journalist for a Christian magazine. He bought this "peasant shirt" as a gift for my Aunt, who was a teenager at the time. She wore it many times, then passed it down to her eldest daugher, and now it has come back to the M. Family, and I am wearing it! It is soo comfy, and fun to wear knowing that three girls wore it over a long span of time!

Day Three: Modest Fashion Week~"Polka Dot Pastel"

...Well, day three of "Modest Fashion Week" is upon us! Hmmm...what shall I wear today? Something bright? Something pink? Something floral? Something countrified? I think I'll go with...

"Polka Dot Pastel"

~Pardon the weird view...I just wanted to show you the pretty colors!~

What I'm Wearing:
Light green pastel sweater: "BP"--Goodwill
       Purple pastel tank-top: "Faded Glory"--Walmart
Polka-Dot pleated skirt: "Tracy Evens Limited"--Goodwill
                                               Black flats: Fred Meyer's

...I looove black and white polka dots, but I sometimes have a hard time finding stuff to match this skirt! Luckily, I remebered this sweater and tank-top, not a perfect fit, but colorful enough! =)

These flats I found at Fred Meyer's...this isn't the best view of them, but I like the little bows on the top! I have never worn heels--flats are comfy, and what I like best to wear. Plus, they look "dressy" enough, and match any outfit--fancy or simple. :)

Tuesday, June 15, 2010

Day Two: Modest Fashion Show~"Black 'n' White Formal"

"Black 'n' White Formal"

Puffed Sleeve tie-blouse: Ross
High white under-cami: Old Navy
Black skirt: Fred Meyer's
Shoes I would wear with this outfit: Black ballet flats--Mossimo Supply (Target)

~A close-up of the blouse~

The Piano Recital

"The Piano Recital" by Vittorio Reggianini

...My first piano recital with my new teacher, Mrs. Kathleen W, is coming up! I have been playing the piano for nearly seven years, now, and have had three teachers during that time. I have been playing with Mrs. W. for almost seven months, and am excited to be in a recital! Between Mrs. W. and my teacher before her, Mrs. D, I hadn't had piano lessons for more than a year! So I was happy to have found a teacher at long last. =) Mrs. W. is an EXCELLENT pianist and teacher--I am learning alot from her, as she has been playing for over fifty years. :)

Here are the songs I am playing (you'll have to go down to the other playlist at the bottom of the blog's sidebar and hit 'pause' to listen):
