When I Grow Up...

when i grow up,

"...I want to be a fairy princess."

Or so my five-year-old self said when inquiring relatives asked. Flitting through the trees, gathering flowers all the day long, srinkling pixie dust to make things right. Afterall, I'd heard it on "Barney and Friends" a dozen times over:

"You can be anything you want to be!"

...but then i changed my mind.

when i grow up,

"..I want to be a firefighter."

...Or so the ten-year-old tomboy within me thought, as I dreamed of heroism. What better life could there be? Saving lives, high adventure, slim escapes!

...but then i changed my mind.

when i grow up,

"...I want to be an actress."

Or so my thirteen-year-old self imagined as I disovered femininity and left {a few of} my tomboy ways behind. I mean--lights, camera, action! Glamour and glitz, what more could a girl want?

...but then i changed my mind.

when i grow up,

"...I want to be a mommy."

Or so I thought from the time I saw a small, living, breathing, precious human child for the first time at the age of four. I knew from that minute that no matter what other course I may take in life, this shall always be my utmost goal and priority, LORD willing.

...and i haven't changed my mind.

Along the way, who knows? Perhaps I shall be a wearer of many hats--writer, musician, cook, teacher..

..but all in due time.

  1. My 5-10 year old self: "When I grow up, I want to be a MAID!" [Not even kidding, that's what I wanted to be. I wanted to wait on the princess of the castle and be at her beck and call. Hmm... I wonder how that would have gone over lol!]
My 12-16 year old self: "When I grow up, I want to be a WRITER."
My 17 year old self: "When I grow up, I want to be a TEACHER."
My 18 year old self: "When I grow up, I want to be a TEACHER, a WIFE, and a MOTHER." And I can definitely be all three. =]

  4. You know, I went through quite a similar transformation! I wanted to be this, then that, then this, then that...and my final conclusion was that I wanted to be a wife and mother ;) At this moment, I'm a little unsure where God's taking me in life up until I find Mr. Right, but it'll get figured out ;)
    Fun post idea!

  5. Lovely post! I have often had these thoughts. Let's see...when I was little it was a writer. I always, always, always wanted to be a writer. I've changed my mind just recently. Now, I want to be a photographer. Who knows? It might change, but I know I always want to be a mom!!

  6. From the time I was 3 I've said I wanted to be a "pizza-maker". And I still do, but that dream has been added to, now it includes baker/chef.
But I also have always wanted to have lots of kids and live on a farm...those combined, would make a great wife! ;)

  7. Hi Lucia! How cute! I think I've always wanted to be a mother. A teacher was a close second, though. Now I am a piano teacher, so that part is fulfilled! Now to be a wife and mother. I am waiting and praying for the man chosen for me (if it's God's Will). Sometimes being patient is so hard, but I am enjoying teaching, while still living at home with my parents and small siblings.

  8. When I was 5-8 I wanted to be an archeologist....I know, strange for a little one, and now I think that would be very boring.

  10. When I was about 7 years old, my best friend's mom was a professional artist. She taught art in school, illustrated a book, painted murals... I wanted to do that too! I really wanted to be an "artist"! Trouble was, with my left-brain-dominance, I had trouble with that. So once I was about 10 or so, I realized it was a "crazy dream". Fast forward to age 18. I now own a business selling my artwork (sewing, painting and drawing) and have illustrated a book! So much for the crazy dream that God didn't let me let go of!

I have always wanted to be a wife and mom. I'm not letting go of that "crazy" dream (crazy according to some people who think that i'm 'too smart' to be 'just' a mom! I say they're crazy! It's what God designed me to do, so I am going to do it!)

  11. Those are wonderful! I remember wanting to be loads of things when I grew up; but like you, I have changed my mind. =P

But though I have wanted to be so much more; the most was being a Mother. All my life I have been in love with babies, and them with me! I knew for sure that I wanted to be a Mother. But since then it has grown even deeper. I want to be a wonderful wife, Mother, House-wife!

I want to be everything a husband would want in a wife. I also have discovered that being a Mother you can do everything you ever wanted to be when growing up. A wife. A Mother. A Teacher. A Nurse. A singer. A Cook. A Photography. And much more!

Great post,Dear! I really did enjoy it! Love you, Lucia! <3 and have a beautiful day!

    God Bless,
    Grace

  12. Some of my little girl aspirations included becoming a writer, actress, teacher, a DJ at a radio station, and a detective. And, I am happy to say that I have been able to do some of those things - minus the DJ part. :) I do think God puts dreams and desires in our hearts and it is exciting to see how He creates opportunities to fulfill some of those things, in His way and in His time. Like I would have never thought I would be teaching computer classes on an island in Uganda!
Thank you for the post, Lucia! Blessings to you!

  13. Thank you for your thought provoking post! I can so relate to the phases we went through as girls (and might still be going through!).
For the longest time I wanted only one career... and actress. Since then I have been praying and asking God to let His will be done in my life. I now want to be a mommy, so much more than an actress or anything else.
However God hasn’t forgotten the passions and desires he gives us.
I have found that God has opened the door for theater and I have found myself in several (Christian) productions.
It’s amazing the plan’s that He has in store for us!
    Thanks again,
    DeAnza
