A Delightful Week-End Past...

Well, thus ends yet *another* wonderful, busy, and tiring weekend. It was filled with good friends--old and new--and delightful company.

It started off Friday with our lovely long visit to The Spaffords, some old friends of ours whom we had long relished a visit. We had a wonderful time reminiscing, playing games, and entertaining eachother with musical talents. =)

After that fun day (it was actually my sister Olivia's 17th birthday), we returned home for a sleepover with two sisters, our good friends. The next day was a small party, including Raquel of God's Daughter, who was also able to spend the night on Saturday!

...Then today, Sunday, we were pleased that Raquel was able to attend church with us. =) It was a delightful weekend all together!

I hope you enjoyed this post and the pictures. May HE be with you always!

Days Gone By

Well, the days have come and gone, and it is time for an update, I believe. =) As with any home schooling (or schooling!=) household, things have been quite busy, and we are all ready for a short break--which perhaps may come tomorrow! But first, let me brief you on a typical day in this household.

Besides schoolwork (which has taken up a good 11 hours of the day for the two hi-school students in the home, my sister Olivia and myself) and keeping the clockwork of the home going, we have been involved in our usual daily activities, and a few unusual ones. =) I am greatly enjoying writing to my pen-pals, some of which own blogs themselves. I have just gotten TWO new ones, which I plan to begin writing to as soon as possible. One is Miss Becca (some of you may have seen “her” post over at Miss Raquel’s blog), and another lovely young lady, Miss Hannah Grace (though only by e-mail at present). It is so wonderful to be able to connect through words with godly young ladies all over the country--through the forgotten art of letter-writing! For even at my tender age, I have seen the steady decline of the hand-held pen--replaced by e-mails and texting over the years. A lovely,15-page letter is now replaced by a two-line text message! It is rather sad. =( So, I encourage you to get a PEN-pal or two! Keep the forgotten art alive!

It has also been my joy and delight to take up the cooking and baking of good things. I just recently discovered the many recipes in our 15 cookbooks, and have been experimenting with these things. Some of the experiments donot go as well as others…but it all takes time and practice. =) My most recent escapade in the kitchen has been the creating of a LARGE “going-away cake” for some friends who are traveling to Malaysia, to live for three years (their father has a “secret job” in the army, and must be transferred there for some reason). After frosting the huge cake with some fluffy white frosting, I discovered that we had no more powdered sugar for the decorating! Woe was the cook! Thankfully, I found a bag of marshmallows in the pantry, and decided to make do. The result was a large, spiky-looking cake decorated with row upon row of small marshmallows, standing in their straight lines like little soldiers. It was a VERY kid-friendly cake. =D

I also have been taking up once more the lovely art of knitting, my hands being absent from the needles for almost a year. Alas, I discovered that we indeed had no yarn. A dear friend, who’s aunt just recently passed away, kindly let us take a multitude of yarn from the hundreds of skeins her aunt had had in her closet, as she was a very avid knitter. We now have a very ready supply, and have several brightly-colored scarves, hats, and blankets-in-the-making for use. =)

If any of you have been on the ”Feelin’ Feminine” website lately, you may have seen their inspiration for a “Homemaker’s Journal.” It is something any young lady will be glad to have someday, as both a relic from her maidenhood, and a helper for her home. It is a notebook that you start now, in which you place favorite recipes, home-made cleaning solutions, projects, etc. over the years. I have taken up this, and am greatly enjoying decorating the inside with pretty things as well as filling it up. I am currently focusing on recipes, and have been searching my memory and cookbooks of all they hold. I am positive that I will appreciate this little journal when I have a home of my own!

So, these have been my latest projects/adventures. And tomorrow, I shall have a break from all! It is my oldest sister Olivia’s 17th birthday, and we get the day off from schoolwork. =) Also, we are going up to WA to visit some dear friends of ours, the Spaffords (Lynnae Spafford has the blog, “Randomness by Lynnae“). We haven’t seen them for nearly two years, I believe--so we are very excited! It will be wonderful to see them.

Well, I must bring this entry to a close. May the LORD bless you all this week, as you strive to please Him in everything!

A Young Maiden's Daybook...

*I recently discovered "A Young Maiden's Daybook," and decided to do it.*

Today...Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

Outside my window…it is cloudy, with a little sun struggling to break through and cheer up the dismal world.

I am thinking…I have some school to catch up on, so I'd best hurry! =)

I am thankful for...God's love, family and friends, sunshine, flowers, animals...need I go on?

I am wearing…a greenish T-Shirt, a black sweatshirt, and black Adidas* sweat pants

I am reading…in my Bible, Genesis. Devotionals--"Addicted to God," Stranger on the Road to Emmaus." Aside, "The Tinker's Daughter."

I am creating…a "Home Economics" journal/notebook filled with recipes, cleaner ideas, etc. to have when I have a home of my own. =)

One of my favorite things…little kittens playing with their tales.

A keeper at home skill I am using/learning …making home-made cleaning products. :)

A spiritual lesson I’m learning…to accept change in friendships and people.

A godly character trait I plan to work on…patience.

Scripture I am memorizing memorized…Psalm 119: 9--11

I am praying for…Haiti, that the Chrsitians there would be strengthened, and that God would use this time to win souls for Him.

For the rest of the week…trustung God to know and keep my future!

A picture I’d like to share

Busy Days Ahead..

Well, here is another question for those of you who know the computer (I certainly don't)!

DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO BURN A DISC ON WINDOW'S MEDIA PLAYER?

I have tried, but it keeps popping up with things like " Please insert writeable disc," when there IS  a writeable disc in there!! Urrg! And please forgive me for this type of post...I just needed to ask! And thank you, Amy, for your help on the last matter...it didn't work, though. So I am trying this! Anyways, if you DO know what might be the problem, please comment and tell me! I would sincerely appriciate it. =)

Alright, then. That is out! On to more important things. :) Please, everyone, remember the H. Family (the three oldest young ladies are my dear new friends and pen pals) in your prayers. They are on a month "tour" to Arizona, where they are sharing God's Word and blessings through their singing in various places. However, when you are singing, you tend to get nervous! Please pray that they will be safe, comfortable, and at ease throughout their shows and trips. Thank you!

We have been quite busy around here lately. School, of course, takes up alot of time, but I am pleased to say that it has been going quite well. Praise the LORD! I am also starting piano lessons again, and I haven't had them for over a year. I am so excited about that! I take them from a very nice lady who is a wonderful teacher and pianist, and has been teaching for over 60 years! I have been playing since I was seven, and have been able to use my instrument for church, as well as a homeschool choir which I am now playing for. I am so glad that I am able to be of use! =) So, I have been quite busy practicing everything, as you might guess. :D

I have recently been getting back into writing; I love to write (and read!), but have never had much time to do so. I am looking for contests and children's magazines for which to submit my work, and have so far entered in one short story contest--we'll see how that goes! As for the magazines, I have been searching, and have found one that I would like to try, but it only publishes once a year...so I will have to wait awhile to submit. Which is okay! If any of you nkow of a good young children's Christian magazine, please let me know! =)

Also, I have LOVED geting back into photography. We do NOT have a good camera, but it is okay. =) Taking pictures is so much fun, and using our little editing program that came with the camera, it can be very satisfying. Below, there is a picture which my good friend Sarah took of me...two years ago, when I was twelve. Not recent, but oh well! I thought it turned out nice.

May God bless you ALL today; thank you for taking the time to visit my blog and comment!
